During the Lantern Festival, Chinese people have the custom of enjoying lanterns and visiting gardens. Wouldn’t it be so fun to bring a handmade lantern and go to the garden with your children? Let me share with you how to make a beautiful palace lantern with chopsticks and crepe paper. It is a very simple handmade craft that does not require any craft skills. You can DIY it with your children.
Materials and tools for making palace lanterns:
Chopsticks, 502 glue, red rope, crepe paper, tassels, etc.
How to make palace lanterns:
Step 1: Arrange four pairs of chopsticks into a square.
Step 2: Stack three layers of chopsticks in the same way.
Step 3: Use 502 glue to fix the connection points.
Step 4: Tie the four corners firmly with red rope. This base is completed, and you can make another one in the same way.
Step 5: Take out a pair of chopsticks and use red rope to tie the head and tail ends of the chopsticks to the two bases.
Step 6: Use the same method to fix the other three sides with chopsticks, and the skeleton of the lantern is ready.
Step 7: Cut the crepe paper to a suitable size. Stack the paper in several layers before cutting to make the cut more neat.
Step 8: Place the cut crepe paper around the completed frame and paste it on the four pillars with double-sided tape.
Step 9: Tie a red rope to each of the top four corners of the lantern, tie the four ropes together into a knot, and thread a chopstick through it.
Step 10: Hang red tassels on the bottom of the lantern, and attach decorations to the lantern according to your own preferences. A beautiful handmade palace lantern is completed. If you still need to place candles, just cross-wrap a few wires on the base and fix the candles at the intersection points.
