How you remember your loved ones has changed over time. In recent years, it has become increasingly common to remember someone not through a cemetery, but by using their remains to fertilize a tree, or turn it into a precious work of art. Spirit Pieces is an online memorial art gallery dedicated to memorializing people (or pets) by placing their cremation ashes into eye-catching glass sculptures.
More than 40 craftsmen from across the United States help people in need obtain different souvenir designs through Spirit Pieces. They vary in size and shape, and some are specific to a certain memorial. For example, an artist named Foster created sleeping cats for people mourning the death of their furry friends.
Dave Blake, the founder of Spirit Pieces, came up with the idea after losing his grandmother more than a decade ago. He said: "I firmly believe that art is a medium that can bridge the emotions of loved ones because it bridges the gap between the spiritual and the material."
