Covent Garden, located in the West End of London, England, is a characteristic area that preserves important architectural civilizations from the 17th to 18th centuries. Recently, large areas of dense white have appeared in the 19th-century market buildings in Covent Garden. A group of balloons appears in the indoor space like floating clouds. It is an installation art created by French artist Charles Pétillon.
This installation art called Heartbeat was created by Charles Pétillon and 5 staff members in five days to make 100,000 white balloons look like clouds and hang them above the building in Covent Garden. It is 54 meters long and 12 meters wide, and will be on display for one month from August 27 to September 27.
The purpose of Charles Pétillon naming the work "Heartbeat" is to remind people of everyday things that are often ignored: this market is the center of this area, the beating heart, combining the past with the present , the visiting public can carefully recall the history of the building and the area itself by looking up.
ConcatenationThe dense white balloons combined with the flowing lighting effects are really romantic and attractive, and they also bring new energy and vitality to the ancient buildings.
This work is also the first artistic creation of Charles Pétillon, who is famous for his series "INVASION" that combines white balloons with space, to be exhibited and installed outside France.
