Escape from the hustle and bustle of the city should be a dream for many people. It would be even better if they could live on their own island. Canadian artists Wayne Adams and Catherine King made this dream come true, spending 25 years creating a self-sufficient floating island off the coast of Vancouver Island in the southwest corner of British Columbia, Canada.

Beginning in 1991, Wayne Adams and Catherine King created this small island called Freedom Cove on the Pacific coast.
1992
They built their own houses, grew their own plants, and tried their best to build Freedom Cove in a way that did not interfere with nature.

Gradually, Freedom Cove has grown in size. In addition to residences, Freedom Cove also has greenhouses and art galleries, all decorated with recycled materials.
Not only do they grow the food they need, but they also use solar energy to generate electricity and live a self-sufficient life.
Catherine King further said: We hope that this lifestyle can contribute to maintaining the environment.
Although Freedom Cove has been under construction for 25 years, Wayne Adams and Catherine King have not stopped and they will continue to inject more new ideas into this floating island.
