Our country has always had the custom of setting off lotus lanterns to pray for blessings during festivals. The lotus lantern is one of the various types of lamps in Buddhism. It is used exclusively by Guanyin, which means to drive away darkness and illuminate life. Generally, people place lotus lanterns to pay homage to their ancestors. Todays lotus lanterns have long exceeded their purpose of praying for blessings and offering sacrifices, and are only for people to watch.
