(Video tutorial on making a lotus flower with 8 petals, very simple, no glue required)
This beautiful origami lotus flower is of average difficulty and anyone can make it with some practice. You can use it for parties or home decoration.
It is divided into two parts, namely leaves and flowers, which need to be combined by folding out the units and then inserting them together. Videos and illustrations are provided, choose the way that suits you to learn!~
You will need to prepare:
16 pieces of square paper (8 petals, 8 leaves)
Pencil
Optional: Glue
Please note: All paper sizes should be the same.
First fold the petals:
1. Fold it in half first. Take a piece of paper and move the bottom edge up to the top edge, aligning it.
2. Fold it in half again, also moving the bottom edge up to the top edge.
3. Expand the last step.
4. Fold the two lower corners toward the middle, aligning with the crease you just created. Do the same for the top left and right corners, but fold only the front layer of those two corners.
5. Fold the top front layer to the bottom edge.
6. Flip the paper from left to right to the other side.
7. Fold the top left and right corners down to align with the middle crease.
8. Fold the top to the bottom edge.
9. You should now have a shape similar to a boat.
10. Open the petals and smooth the edges.
11. Fold one of the corners toward the central crease and smooth it out.
12. Repeat the steps until you have folded 8 petals.
Next, we're going to fold the leaves.
13. First divide the paper into three equal parts and make an "S" shape.
14. Flatten the “S” shape.
15. Unfold the paper. Leave a pencil mark on the top of each crease.
16. Fold the right side of the paper to the leftmost pencil mark, and then unfold it.
17. Next, fold the left edge of the paper to align with the vertical crease you just made.
18. Now fold the right edge of this layer back to the left.
19. Fold the right part as well. That is, fold it to the left first, then fold the front layer to the right.
20. Open from the middle like a door. Rotate the paper 180 degrees.
21. Fold the bottom edge to the top edge and align it.
22. Next, fold the two lower corners diagonally toward the center crease. Similar to folding flower petals, fold only the front layer into the crease at the top two corners.
23. Fold the top front layer down.
24. Flip the paper from left to right to the other side.
25. Fold the top left and right corners to the center crease.
26. Fold the top edge down to align with the bottom edge.
27. Repeat steps until there are 8 leaf units. There should be a total of 8 petals and 8 leaves at this point.
Please note that you may need to use glue when assembling the flowers and leaves, depending on the paper. Thicker paper holds together better than thin paper.
28. Start assembling the flower from two petal units. Insert the lower left corner of the right petalInto the flap of the left petal.
29. Turn them over together. You'll see theres a flip cover there as well. Then insert the corner of the left petal into the flap on the right petal.
30. Repeat until you have assembled 4 petals in total.
31. Do the same thing with the remaining 4 petals.
32. Place 2 sets of petals so that they face each other.
33. Next, assemble the leaves in exactly the same way as the flower.
The lotus sits on top of the leaf, use a small amount of glue if you want to connect the two to each other.
34. The flower can be used as an independent part or combined with the leaves.
You can use it as a storage tray to hold jewelry and other small items.
For party decorations, place a candle in the center, preferably in a glass. For extra safety, use a battery-operated tea light candle!
