As a shining star in the treasure house of Chinese paper art culture, paper-cutting has been loved by everyone from emperors and generals to common people since ancient times. Since the themes involved in paper-cutting generally come from folk life, this also makes paper-cutting more expressive of simplicity and rich national culture. In order to actively promote Chinese paper-cutting culture in the new era and inherit the essence of folk customs represented by paper-cutting, various paper-cutting-related themed activities have been held in various parts of our country in recent years. On August 1, my country’s first China Paper-cut Art Festival grandly opened in Yu County, Hebei Province!
As the hometown of Chinese paper-cut art, Yu County, Hebei Province attaches great importance to this paper-cut art festival. In order to better present Chinese folk culture to the world, Yu County organized and performed many theatrical performances with folk characteristics at the opening ceremony. At the same time, it opened a special booth to showcase Yu Countys paper-cutting and Yu County Yangko. Local folk activities in Yu County were displayed. What made the audience even more excited was that representatives of 41 paper-cutting artists from all over the country were invited to show off their paper-cutting skills.
Although Chinese paper-cutting was only selected into UNESCOs Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009, in recent years, paper-cutting artists from all over the world have made their own contributions in order to promote Chinese paper-cutting. Whether you work hard to create paper-cut works or actively participate in paper art exhibitions at home and abroad, you are all aiming to achieve the grand goal of bringing Chinese paper-cutting to the world, letting people around the world understand Chinese paper-cutting, and letting more people understand Chinese culture.
