On April 12, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Switzerland, the cultural project "Paper-cutting Art of Combining East and West·" was jointly organized by the Consulate General of Switzerland in Shanghai, Switzerland, the Ernst Hall Cultural Foundation in Appenzell, Switzerland, and the China Academy of Art The exhibition "Paper-cut Elements and Swiss Culture" opened at the China Academy of Art Exhibition Hall, which maintains the edge of the West Lake in Hangzhou.
The official guardians of this event are Ms. Doris Leuthard, President of the Swiss Confederation, and Mr. Cai Wu, Minister of Culture of the Peoples Republic of China. On the one hand, the exhibition uses the ancient Chinese paper-cutting art as a carrier to show Swiss traditional culture and life to Chinese audiences; on the other hand, it displays the works of eight internationally renowned and representative Swiss paper-cutting artists. This exhibition displays a total of 140 works, some of which are works created by four Chinese artists after visiting Switzerland in 2008 to express the traditional folk customs, festivals and culture of eastern Switzerland. The works cover the highest peak in eastern Switzerland. Santis Mountains and Appenzell Inne, Switzerlandrroden and Appenzell Ausserroden as well as the Toggenburg region in St. Gallen. The other part is the works created by eight Swiss paper-cut artists. The works mainly express Swiss scenery, various animals and plants, daily life and some traditional customs. The works range from traditional houses to modern life, interpreting the theme of the exhibition with Matisse-like abstract language.
The exhibition will last until April 20. During this period, the famous Swiss paper-cut artists Mr. Ernst Oppliger and Mr. Bruno Weber will also teach their skills at the China Academy of Art. At the same time, the "Swiss Country Music" folk band led by Mr. Geni Good will also come to the scene to participate in the performance interaction and exchanges between teachers and students of the college.
