Chinese paper-cutting is divided into two factions, the north and the south. The northern paper-cutting mainly uses simple block-faced hollow carvings to create a freehand image, which is rough and honest; the southern paper-cutting mainly uses numerous lines to create a hollow and realistic image, which is delicate and complicated. Lin Taos paper-cutting mainly uses simple and changing lines to form hollow freehand images, which enriches and develops the genre of Chinese paper-cutting art. Together with Shaanxi paper-cut artist Zhang Zhaolin, she is known as the "South Lin Bei Zhang" in the paper-cut world.

Shenzhen Special Economic Zone News:

Yesterday, reporters learned from relevant parties in Zhangpu that Lin Tao, the oldest and longest-serving folk paper-cutting artist in the country, finally spent his happy old age and passed away at his home in Baisha Village, Jiuzhen Town, Zhangpu County on the morning of the 8th. Passed away peacefully at the age of 106.

Lin Tao was born in Yuanshang Village, Jiuzhen City in 1905, and was later sent to Baisha Village to be a child.Daughter-in-law. Lin Tao got married at the age of 20. The following year, when the baby was 8 months old, her husband left for Southeast Asia and never heard from her again. She worked hard as a domestic and did embroidery to raise her son. Unfortunately, his son died when he was 8 years old. When she was single until the age of 40, she adopted her 3-year-old nephew as a son.

Lin Tao started learning embroidery at the age of 9 and paper-cutting at the age of 16. She was so ingenious that she didn't have any guidance from a master when she first learned paper-cutting. All kinds of bed flowers, table flowers, and porcelain carvings on the roof... were all her "sketching" materials. The first time he took action, he won praise from the villagers. Since then, in his creative career of several decades, Lin Tao has created one fine piece of art after another.

In the 1980s, experts from Nanjing Art Institute discovered Lin Taos paper-cutting art. Lin Tao became famous in one fell swoop and became a well-known folk paper-cutting artist at home and abroad. Countless honors fell on this rural woman: she was recognized by UNESCO and the Central Academy of Fine Arts as "the representative inheritor of folk paper-cutting talents in Chinas coastal areas"; The Complete Collection of Chinese Folk Art·Paper-cut Scroll·Introduction" is said to "represent the highest realm of Chinese folk paper-cut art creation"; the New York International Association of Eastern and Western Artists has praised it as the "Chinese Folk Picasso"; in 2009, it was awarded the "New China Literature and Art by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles" Honorary title for the 60th anniversary of work."

Lin Taos life of joys and sorrows is the epitome of the hardworking, intelligent, kind and strong Chinese working peoples vicissitudes of life and continuous self-improvement.

Artistic achievements

The works tell beautiful folklore stories

Lin Tao knows folk etiquette well. It is no exaggeration to say that she is a living dictionary of local folk beliefs. In her spiritual world, she has a profound accumulation of traditional folk culture. When she is a master of ceremonies in folk rituals such as "Salute", she will use metaphorical and humorous techniques to turn some good wishes into a congratulatory message by symbolizing some specific things. When these congratulations are expressed using paper cutting, there is a beautiful folk story behind each work. From "Moon Cake Flower" we read the legend of the moon by the Southern Fujian people; from "Pigs Foot Flower" and "Big Cake Flower" We read about the clever and beautiful prayers of the people in southern Fujian after being embarrassed when giving betrothal gifts; from "Flower with a Rice Spoon" IWe read about the love that the Hokkien people have for those "good brothers" (referring to the legendary wandering ghosts)...

Lin Taos paper-cuts have the atmosphere of a "country woman" but not the charm of a "little family jasper". The artistic images she cuts out, whether they are myths and legends, folk customs, or birds and beasts, are all based on her own subjective imagination. She chooses and exaggerates at will, and sometimes puts things from different times and spaces into the same time and space. Expression transcends the limitations of focus perspective, making the themes expressed in paper-cut unexpectedly concentrated and typical. Sometimes, various original abstract textures are boldly used for decoration, showing strong original interest and naive beauty, which is in line with modern times. The abstract absurdity of art has the same purpose but the same purpose.

Secrets of Longevity
