In Japan, to celebrate Boys' Day on May 5th, families with boys hang carp streamers to pray for the boys to grow up as soon as possible. During the Edo period, the Chinese "carp jumping over the dragon gate" was introduced to Japan, and this custom evolved from there. It was originally the Dragon Boat Festival of the lunar calendar, but now it is celebrated on May 5th of the Gregorian calendar.
