Dragon fruit, also known as red dragon fruit, dragon fruit, and fairy honey fruit, is native to Central America and is one of the famous fruits in the tropics and subtropics. It is of cool nature. In its natural state, the fruit matures in summer and autumn and is sweet and juicy. Dragon fruit is a combination of "fruit", "flower" and "vegetable". We usually eat it with the seeds. In fact, the seeds of dragon fruit can be used to DIY potted plants. Let me share with you how to grow mini potted plants from dragon fruit seeds.
Cultivation process:
1. Select fresh dragon fruit and cut it into pieces. Use a small spoon to scrape off the pulp of the dragon fruit. Those small black particles are the seeds of the dragon fruit.
2. Put the pulp into a large bowl, soak it in water, and gently twist the seeds out of the pulp with your hands. Continue soaking in water overnight.
3. The next day, put the pulp into a gauze bag to filter water, rub it, and then put it into clean water to squeeze out the pulp. This process should be repeated many times to completely separate the pulp and mucus attached to the seeds. .
4. Use a filter to drain the cleaned seeds and set aside for later use.
5. Prepare a cup and put a layer of coarse sand on the bottom layer to prevent water.
6. Mix the culture soil with water until it is moist but not dripping, then fill it into a cup and compact it slightly.
7. Press 1/3 of the cookie mold into the soil.
8. The outer ring is paved with fine white sand.
9. Spread the dry seeds evenly on the surface of the soil, and then spray the seeds back and forth with a watering can to moisten the surface of the seeds.
10. Cover the mouth of the cup with plastic wrap, place it on a bright windowsill, and wait for germination. Use a watering can to keep the soil and seeds moist every two days.
After 11.5-7 days, new shoots will grow, and you can remove the plastic wrap at this time. Let the small potted plants gradually receive mild sunlight, and spray water with a watering can every 2-3 days.
After 12.3-4 weeks, the cotyledons of the pitaya unfold, becoming green and plump. At this time, the soil is no longer visible, it is like a small fleece blanket. But it will take at least 3-4 months before the small cactus-like thorns will grow.
Tips on dragon fruit cultivation:
The optimal germination temperature for dragon fruit seeds is around 25 degrees.
A medium-sized dragon fruit seed can make at least 10 such small pots. Just use the seeds according to your needs.
Choose culture soil with relatively fine particles, or use commercially available sowing soil instead.
Be sure to remove the pulp and gum attached to the seeds, otherwise mold will easily grow during germination.
When making small potted plants, the seeds should be spread more densely, especially around the edges. Otherwise, they will be sparsely planted and lose their beauty.
Because the cup has no bottom hole, do not water directly with a water bottle to avoid overwatering. Just spray water with a watering can once every 2-3 days
