Exquisite and beautiful butterfly pins are handmade and suitable for matching with bright-colored clothing. A slightly complicated handmade production, the production method is simply to print your favorite color on aluminum foil and then cover it with epoxy resin. For specific DIY methods, please refer to the illustrated tutorial below. The prepared butterfly pins can also be transformed into hairpin accessories with slight modifications.
Materials and Tools:
Aluminum foil paper, white glue, A4 paper, printer, brush, heat gun, epoxy resin, bamboo sticks, quick-drying glue, iron wire, copper wire, pins, etc.
Production process:
1. Cut a piece of kitchen aluminum foil of appropriate size and stick it on the A4 paper with white glue to obtain sufficient thickness, and then send it to the printer later.
2. Apply a layer of white glue on the surface of the aluminum foil so that the printer can print on the aluminum foil paper. When applying white glue, pay attention to the concentration of the white glue. If it is too thick, it will not be easy to apply evenly. If it is too thin, it will be difficult to form a film due to the water repellency of the aluminum foil. If you accidentally adjust it too thinly, you can use a hot air gun to blow and brush repeatedly, and finally you can brush out a complete film.
White glue is drying on the surface of the aluminum foil. You can see the A4 paper stuck under the aluminum foil on the upper edge of the picture
3. After the white glue is dry, send it to the printer to print the desired graphics.
4. Use scissors to cut out the desired shape. The butterfly wings in the picture below have 8 pieces. Because you want to have patterns on both sides of the wings, you can reduce 4 pieces if you only want to make one side. If the aluminum foil is wrinkled, cover it with a piece of paper and flatten it with your fingernail or a spoon.
5. Fix the cut aluminum foil with clay, making sure the edges are hanging and the colored side faces up. Then use a bamboo skewer dipped in epoxy resin to cover the surface of the aluminum foil, leaving the edges hanging to prevent the resin from flowing around. If there is enough resin on the surface of the aluminum foil, it will bulge into a shiny surface by itself.
Some types of epoxy resin will react with the white adhesive film on the aluminum foil to produce white turbidity after the two liquids are mixed, which not only reduces the transparency, but also causes incomplete hardening of the resin. If you encounter this problem, you can first paint a layer of clear paint on the white glue film to isolate the epoxy resin, or mix the two liquids of epoxy resin and let it polymerize by itself for a while, which can reduce the degree of reaction with the white glue, and then continue When sufficient fluidity is maintained, cover the surface of the aluminum foil with the resin.
6. After the epoxy resin hardens, use iron wire and quick-drying glue to stick the parts together. In the picture below, you can see that the wire attached to the central axis of the body has an arch-shaped protrusion, which is intended to be passed through with copper wire later and fixed to the pin.
7. What it will look like after attaching both sides of the wings.
8. Find a copper wire and pass it through the arch-shaped protrusion, then wrap it around a pin to create a beautiful butterfly pin, and your DIY is complete. If you want to change the butterfly pin into a butterfly necklace or butterfly hairpin jewelry, just remove the copper wire.
Tips:
1. White glue refers to polyvinyl acetate, also known as white latex.
2. The epoxy resin here is used for pouring using the main agent: hardener = 3:1. It hardens in about 24 hours at room temperature. Some people call it crystal glue.
