How to knit stitches
You can knit in a variety of stitches, and "knitting" is just one of them. For example, you can also knit purl stitch. But since you have to have a starting point, start learning from the needle.
- 1 Hold the needle with a line of sewing thread in your left hand, and hold another needle without thread in your right hand. Consider wrapping some yarn around your right middle finger. This will ensure that the yarn is behind your finished knit.
- 2Put the needle on the right hand (without thread) Thread the first loop of the needle (with wool) in your left hand, which is the loop closest to the needle tip. Push the needle into the circle so that the right needle is now underneath the left needle.
- 3Make sure the yarn connected to the yarn ball is behind the needle.
- 4Pick up and connect to The yarn of the ball of yarn (the longer end) is wrapped around the right needle in a counterclockwise direction so that it is now between the two knitting needles. Wrap the thread around the right needle from back to front.
- 5Look at the middle of the two knitting needles . You should be able to see the two holes made by the yarn in the middle.
- Move the right needle up and down so that it goes through the hole on the left.
- 6 Insert the right needle into the left hole and come toLeft needle front. Do this step slowly, making sure your loop doesn't slip off the needle.
- This process looks a little different if you look at the knitting needles instead of looking at them from top to bottom. Start slowly pushing the inserted needle out of the loop, making sure the yarn you just wrapped doesn't unravel. It may help to hold the yarn tightly so that the loop is nestled against the needle (pictured).
- Just before the knitting needle is completely pulled out of the loop, turn the needle tip and the yarn around it toward you.
- Now what you have to do is use your stitches to tighten the loop. The loop formed on the second stitch will be your new row of stitches and will replace the old row.
- 7 Now that you have a new row of stitches, you can pull the old one apart. Grab the loosened stitches of the left needle with your left hand, lift the right needle higher than the left needle and loosen the left stitches. If you successfully tie a knot on the right needle, you have knitted correctly. (If it doesn’t work, pull out the previous stitch, pick up another stitch, and start again.)
- 8 Repeat the stitches until all loops on the left needle have been knitted, and transfer to the right needle.
- 9Exchange knitting needles. Swap knitting needles left and right, nowThe left hand holds a knitting needle with two rows of knitting, while the right hand needle is empty. Make sure all your loops are oriented in the same direction, with the knitted row to the right of the left knitting needle.
- 10Knit each row and start a new one Swap knitting needles every row. Repeat this step and you will create a "jersey knit" pattern.
