How to do it
- To make a suitable matching fan cover for the folding fan shown in the picture below, first determine the style of folding fan to be made.
- Prepare a cardboard slightly larger than the fan, and use the cardboard to cut out the size of the fan as a reference. The dimensions to be determined here are: the length of the folding fan is 21 cm, and the thickest outer circumference (lateral) is 6.5 cm.
- Fold the cardboard in the middle of the fabric and cut out the shape on the fabric according to the shape of the cardboard, leaving a seam allowance of about 7 mm (yellow line).
- Draw a suture line with a seam allowance of about 7 mm (white line). Use an iron to iron out the fold lines.
- In this way, we prepare two pieces of fabric and a lining. Lining (right) has no seam allowance.
- Adhesive the lining to the front fabric.
- Stack the three pieces of fabric together, front and back, combine the three positions, the center and the end, and use small needles to position them. Sew along the solid line (red line).
- Cut the seam allowance to approximately 4mm. As shown in the figure below.
- After sewing, turn it back to the front and make sure it is flat.
- Separate the front fabric and lining fabric separately and adjust them to "inside front". First, sew the sides and bottom of the front fabric (yellow thread). Sew with the sewing thread (red thread) in step "7".
- Next, sew the sides and bottom (yellow thread). Pay attention to the reserved suture opening.
- Fold the bottom fabric opening and sew it with a sewing machine (such as the yellow line). For the seam allowance (black line), cut into a triangle so that the seam allowance at the corners does not overlap at the seam.
- The effect is shown in the picture below.
- Next, place your thumb in the return mouth and flip the fabric back to the front.
- The overall effect is shown in the figure below.
- Be careful not to sew the reserved return port on the outside to keep it beautiful.
- Turn back the front fabric from the bag opening and return opening. Please use chopsticks to slowly guide it back to the front.
- The nice-looking fan cover is completed. This concludes the introduction to how to make a handmade fan cover. Hurry up and make a good-looking fan cover for your folding fan!
