Tutorial on making a puppet backpack
- First make a piece of patterned paper.
A semicircle (red dashed line) with a diameter of 12cm is located in the upper center, and a rectangle (yellow dashed line) with a length of 13cm and a width of 13cm is located below. Place a mark (blue line) 3.5 cm from the top of each end of the rectangle.
※This pattern does not include seam allowance.
- Prepare the fabric. The outer fabric (quilted) and the inner fabric are both 22 cm square, and the pocket fabric is 22 cm wide and 13 cm long.
- Prepare supporting materials. The straps and adjusters are 25mm wide, the yellow twill tape and velcro are 20mm wide. Because the nylon strap is very hard, it cannot be sewn with a sewing machine (it can be sewn with the inner fabric)
- Fold the pocket fabric "in front" and sew with a sewing machine 5.5cm from the edge (red line). Make a width of about 2 to 2.5 cm in the center part without sewing.
- Turn it back to the front, clip the 20 mm wide twill tape (cut to 7 cm long) into a hole of about 1 cm, place it in the center of the twill tape, and sew with a sewing machine (red line) .
- Also, put the bias tape (cut into a length of 23cm) into the upper part and sew the edge (blue line) around the edge. Also, cut two sets of Velcro (20mm wide) to 2.5cm and sew in the corresponding positions. (Refer to the picture below).
- Copy the paper pattern in the center of the "back" of the inner fabric. Copy the mark from step 1" on the fabric (blue line) and make two 3mm cuts on both ends (red line).
- Next, turn the inner fabric back to the "front side" and sew temporarily (blue thread).
- Turn the fabric back to the "right side".
- As shown below, slowly mark the sewing line (red line).
- Use a sewing machine to sew, and be sure to leave a "return opening" below. Cut off the extra seam allowance. Here, it is best not to keep the entrance and return ports too short.
- Turn the fabric back to the "front" through the return opening.
- Start sewing the shoulder straps below. Cut the bag straps on the shoulder straps to 40cm and the armpits to 20cm each, and sew (red lines in 4 places).
- The effect of the shoulder strap is as shown in the picture below. Sew the adjuster to the underarm side strap (lower left side of photo. Then thread the upper strap into the adjuster.
- Cut the twill tape (20mm wide) to 27cm, fold 1cm at both ends,
- Sew Velcro (hook sides) to both ends.
- Sew the twill tape on the trapezoid (red line) in the center of the lower side of the back of the semicircle, refer to the photo.
- You can put the stuffed toys into your backpack, refer to the photo.
- This is the tutorial for making a puppet backpack. You can make one as a gift for your children. The children will definitely like it very much.
