I have always loved flower crowns and often wished the flowers could last forever, so wanted to make them out of felt so they could serve as a fun decoration that would last year round. In this tutorial, I'll show you how to make a variety of felt fabric flowers that you can turn into a flower crown or garland!~
First take out the wire, green tape and scissors.
Make a ring that fits the size of your head.
How to make felt poppies. Start by cutting out about nine red petals. You will also need a small piece of light green, a strip of dark green, a yellow rectangle and a dark yellow rectangle. For the yellow rectangle, you will need to cut along one edge.
To form the center of the flower, roll the light green strip and adhere with hot glue. Then wrap dark green, light yellow and dark yellow cloth strips on the roll.
Next, cut in the middle of the petals and glue one of the cut pieces to the other to make the petals more three-dimensional.
Glue the center of the flower to the edge of one of the petals. Continue pinning the remaining petals around the center. in random order (rather than rotating around the centerTurn the petals) for better pasting effect.
Cut out two large leaf shapes from dark green felt cloth and cut out small triangles from the edges.
Adhere them to the back of the poppy.
How to make buttercups. It is a beautiful flower with many layers of petals, often in a soft gradient of colors.
Cut out petals in several colors, here I chose a gradient color from green to pink, where the green petals will be in the center. Notice that the innermost petals are small and round, with the outer petals gradually getting larger.
Use hot glue to stick the innermost petals (green) together. Take one row of inner petals and roll it into a spiral, gluing the ends to keep it together.
For the next petal color (light green), I made it more dimensional by cutting the center of the petal and pasting it as shown.
Continue making the flower by gluing the petals around the center. I adhered the white petals first, then the pink ones.
To attach the clip to the flower, first cut a circle of felt. Fold it in half and cut a small slit about a third of the way down the folded edge.
Insert the top of the clip into the cutout and apply glue to the round cloth, then glue the round cloth to the flower.
Small flower buds can be used to fill felt fabric flowers to make them look more vivid and complete.
Take a square of felt and cut a curve starting from each corner and moving towards the center of the square. Flip the square over and cut the curve in the same direction as in the previous step, ending up with a cross shape like the one pictured above.
Use green felt cloth to make a small one.
Paste as shown and cut a small slit in the center.
Take a piece of wire and make a small loop at the top. Insert the wire into the slit and tape the wire to the cloth.
Adhere the four tips as well.
How to make classic roses. Cut out the rose petals in the shape shown above. For the petals in the center, I tend to cut shorter and wider petals so that they are easier to roll up. You can also make the petals look more interesting by cutting wavy curves at the top of the petals.
Prepare the center of the rose by rolling the petals into a spiral and gluing the ends.
Start gluing the petals around the center. You can finish by dabbing some glue in the center of the petals and pinching the petals to make each petal more shapely and interesting.
How to make hibiscus tropical flowers. Cut out about eight petals (three smaller petals will surround the center of the flower and the other five will be glued to the base). You will also need a small fringed rectangle for the flowers stamens and another small rounded rectangle (orange) for the pistils.
Take a piece of wire and wrap/glue the wrapped yellow rectangle around the tip of the wire.
Wrap the orange felt cloth around the wires and tape it in place.
For the three center petals, make a slit in the middle of the petals to make them more three-dimensional after pasting.
Adhere these three petals around the center pistil.
Attach the remaining petals to the wire at the base of the flower.
This is another way to create leaves that can be added to flowers.
Glue them together and bend them into a more desirable shape.
How to make succulents. Cut out an even number of leaves, each leaf is actually two pieces of felt, to make it look nice.
Group the leaves into pairs and glue the two pieces together.
Choose a leaf to serve as the center of the succulent. Add a little glue in the middle of the leaf and stick it.
Continue gluing the leaves around the center piece.
Cute little daisies are made and can be made into large or small sizes. Cut some longer, relatively thin petals from white and cut a yellow rectangle for the center of the daisy.
Apply hot glue to one side and fold it in half.
Cut tassels on the folded edge.
Roll it up and make it into a flower center.
Cut a knife in the middle of the petals and paste them.
Attach the petals around the center of the flower.
How to make anemones. Cut some round petals (I used peach color). Then cut out thin strips from the black felt cloth.
Cut a tassel on one side of the black cloth and roll it up to make a flower center.
Attach the petals around the center of the flower.
This is another way to make leaves. Make triangular cuts on either side of the long, thin leaf shape. You can take a piece of wire and glue it to the center of the leaf.
Jian FernPinch the sides of the plant together so the leaves are not so flat.
We've learned how to make many different types of flowers and plants, and we hope you can find one you like!
You can attach them to a previously completed wire ring to create a flower crown or garland.
You can also decorate the finished fabric flowers onto hats or bags, or wear them in your hair and lapels.
