There are many professional terms for clothing tailoring. If you do not understand these basic knowledge, there will always be various misunderstandings when doing clothing DIY. Here is a brief explanation of several basic clothing terms that you must master.
Seam edge: The extra part left during sewing, the distance from the suture line to the edge of the fabric, is also called seam allowance and seam head.
Hemming: A method used to process the edges of cloth or strengthen the fabric. It is often used on the cuffs, collars or pockets of clothes.
Fold line: The marking line used when folding in half or three. You can use an iron to press out the fold at the fold line.
Cloth seam: A method of sewing fabrics. Sometimes a clear seam is also specially sewn for decorative purposes.
Inner crotch: The thicker bottom part of the bag. The inner crotch can increase the volume of the bag and accommodate more things.
Tooth opening: A mark made to ensure that the position does not shift when sewing fabrics of different shapes.
Return: The gap left to allow the fabric to turn back when sewing the inside of the fabric.
