Handmade DIY baby coat, made of wool felt, has very good drape and flexibility, and feels warm, making it very suitable for babies and young children to wear.
Materials required for making baby coats:
1) Jacket fabric - gray wool felt, cut into 1 back piece and 2 front pieces;
2) Jacket lining—pure cotton printed fabric, cut to the same size as the outer fabric;
3) Jacket accessories—hidden buttons, cotton thread.
Infant and toddler coat making steps:
1) The two front pieces of the table fabric are stacked face to face on the back piece, align the edges and fix with beads. Sew sleeves and sides with 1/2-inch seam allowance.
2) The lining is treated in the same way, but a mark needs to be made 1.5 inches away from the cuff. When sewing, leave 1/4 inch of sewing within 1.5 inches of the cuff, and 1/2 inch for the rest of the lining. Seam allowance. See the following steps for the reason.
3) Cut a few teeth in the sutured lining armpit area, and then turn it to the front. Put the lining into the table fabric, face to face, and fix the collar, placket and hem with beading pins.
4) Sew the outer fabric and lining along the edges of the garment, leaving the cuffs unsewed and leaving 3 inches of the hem unstitched.
5) After sewing, trim the corners slightly, and then turn the garment out from the return opening.
6) Cut off 1.5 inches from the cuff fabric, as shown in the picture. Fold the lining of the cuffs over the outer fabric of the cuffs, then sew a circle by hand. Sew up the 3 inches of opening you just left.
7) Sew a pair of concealed buttons on both sides of the placket of the garment. In this way, your DIY wool felt jacket is completed!
