When a woman lives at home, she still needs to master some needlework and can complete some simple sewing. Below are 7 common hand sewing methods, all with detailed pictures and texts. Come and try to learn them. These are essential life skills for a good wife and mother~~
Hemming seam: Also called raw edge seaming, it is used to decorate the edge of the cloth and can also be used for buttonholes.
1) Take out the needle along the edge surface of the cloth piece;
2) Pass the thread around the piece of fabric and insert the needle in front of the needle exit point in step 1. The needle point can be adjusted by yourself;
3) Tighten the line segment;
4) Repeat actions 2 to 3;
5) Complete the stitches.
Flat stitch: Used for joining two pieces of fabric or sewing thinner fabrics.
1) Insert the needle 0.7 cm outside the marked point;
2) Remove the needle about 0.5 cm forward;
3) Go back half way, insert the needle, and move forward to the marked point to remove the needle;
4) Move the needle forward and up and down, the needle length is about 0.2 to 0.3 cm, and withdraw the needle after about 2 to 3 stitches;
5) Repeat action 4 until the sewing is completed.
Backstitch: Used to enhance flat stitches for flimsy or thicker fabrics.
1) Insert the needle 0.7 cm outside the marked point and remove the needle about 0.5 cm forward;
2) Go back half way, insert the needle, and remove the needle at the forward mark;
3) Go back to the end of the previous stitch and insert the needle;
4) Remove the needle about 0.7 cm forward;
5) Repeat actions 3 to 4;
6) The thread marks are as shown in the figure. Pay attention to the difference from flat stitch stitching.
Hidden stitch: Also called patching stitch, it is used to sew cloth B onto cloth A or piping strips.
1) Insert the needle into the back of cloth A and remove the needle from the surface of cloth B;
2) Insert the needle from the symmetrical point of cloth A;
3) Insert the needle about 0.3 cm forward of cloth B;
4) Repeat actions 2 to 3;
5) Completed stitches.
Shrinkage: Used to make shrinkage.
1) Insert the needle from the surface of the circular piece of cloth and remove the needle about 0.5 cm forward;
2) Insert the needle 0.5 cm forward;
3) Sew forward with a flat stitch, the needle length is about 0.5 to 0.7 cm;
4) Completed. (Tightening the suture can shrink the opening)
Bathing: Used to temporarily fix the surface fabric, quilting and lining fabric.
1) Arrange the three layers of surface fabric, paving cotton and lining fabric in order;
2) Knot the basting thread with a single thread and insert the needle from the center point of the fabric piece;
3) Remove the needle from the surface about 2.5 cm forward;
4) The needle is inserted and removed from the surface 2.5 cm further forward;
5) Do not tie the last stitch back;
6) Sew a cross shape outward from the center point;
7) Then sew a 45-degree diagonal line;
8) Use a spoon to assist when sewing.
This example is one of the uses of basting and is prepared for the "press seam" below.
Pressed seams: Used to increase the three-dimensionality and tightness of sewn clothing or fabric works.
1) After using the above method to "baste" the surface fabric, paving cotton and lining fabric, use a marker to draw the lines to be seamed;
2) Start the needle and hide the thread end in the quilting, and sew along the marked line with a flat stitch, the needle length is about 0.2 to 0.3 cm;
3) Use the same method to sew all the marked lines, remove the basting lines and you are done.
