Origami skulls are an easy Halloween craft for kids to make. With just a few basic folds and some clever cutting, kids can transform a piece of paper into one of the most fun elements of Halloween.
It can be put on the child as a mask by punching holes and threading on both sides.
After Halloween, kids can celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) by making origami skulls. This holiday is observed on November 1st and 2nd each year to honor friends and family members who have passed away. The holiday is marked by parades, dances and the trinkets left on the graves of loved ones. It is a national holiday in Mexico, but is also celebrated frequently in the United States.
1. Prepare a piece of white square paper, fold it diagonally and open it. Then fold the two edges to the crease, as shown when finished.
2. Fold the top corner down as shown in the picture.
3. Fold in the left and right sides. Cut out two triangles, these will be the eyes of the skull.
4. Fold the paper in half and cut out a triangle, which is the nose of the skull.
5. Unfold the paper. Start by making the origami skull mask teeth.
6. Turn over the paper. Fold the bottom corner up about 1/5.
7. Fold the corners down, then up, then down again. This completes the teeth of the origami skull.
To make this skull even more fun, you can try folding it with orange, green, purple, silver, or gold paper. Apply a little bit of red paint to create a spooky Halloween skull. If your child doesn't want to wear a mask, you can tape some colored tissue paper on the cutout and use it as window decoration~
