French chrysanthemum, also known as: Western chrysanthemum, basil chrysanthemum, wood spring chrysanthemum, ox-eye chrysanthemum, shore chrysanthemum, French chrysanthemum; Latin name: Leucanthemum vulgare, is a flowering plant originating in the temperate zones of Europe and Asia.
French chrysanthemum is a perennial herb with a small flower head (no more than 5 cm) at the top of the stem, composed of about 20 white tongue-shaped flowers and a large number of yellow heart flowers. The stems are mostly unbranched and grow sideways from the roots. The leaves are dark green on both sides. The basal leaves and middle leaves have stalks, are obovate to spatulate, and have serrations. The upper leaves are shorter, sessile and grow along the stem. It has numerous flat seeds without pappus. It is a typical lawn flower that can grow in a variety of environments, but prefers moist soil.
