How to draw Batman’s badge
- 1Draw an oval on Batmans chest. If you choose a badge with an oval, this will serve as the outer border of the bat logo. If you choose a badge without an oval, it will also serve as a reference for the bat logo. The width of the oval should be as long as the distance between the ends of Batmans eye holes.
- 2Draw another ellipse inside the first ellipse. The space between the two ovals forms the frame of the Bat emblem. You can ignore this step if you don't plan to add an oval border around the badge.
- 3Draw a set of horizontal and vertical reference lines that bisect the ellipse.
- 4Draft the bat logo, starting from one side. Until 1969, the bat logo consisted of slightly curved lines that radiated from the head to the tips of the wings, and then curved downwards to the outer tips of the wings. After 1969, the outer edges of the wings were curved to resemble the edge of a double-edged axe. Use the guide lines to draw half of the bat symbol first, then mirror it to the other side.
- 5Finally erase the previously drawn reference line.
DIY Tips
- The convention for Batman coloring over the years has been gray on the top and legs, yellow for the utility belt and oval emblem, and dark or medium blue for the cape, cowl, boots, gloves, and only black. The most obvious is the bat logo on the chest (however, the cape, hood, boots, and gloves are often said to be black). In recent years, the previously blue parts have been changed to black, inspired by the uniform designs in "Batman" and "Batman Returns."
- When you draw Batman on paper, make the sketch lines lighter so that they can be erased more easily. To make the final outline more distinct, outline it with ink before coloring.
- If you use computer drawing software such as Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro to draw Batman, create different layers to draw rough lines and final lines. Once you're satisfied with the drawn image, you can delete the layer of sketch lines. After coloring the Dark Knight, merge the layers.
