When water on Earth is hit by the sun, it turns to steam and evaporates into the air. Water vapor condenses into small water droplets when it encounters cold air at high altitudes. These small water droplets are very small, only 0.01-0.02 mm in diameter, and the largest is only 0.2 mm. They are small and light and are held aloft by updrafts. These small water droplets collect in the air and form clouds. If these small water droplets fell to the ground as raindrops, their volume would increase by more than a million times.
