The rings are one of the mens gymnastics events. The modern ring sport originated in France, inspired by acrobats' flying rope performances, and was later introduced to Germany and Italy. In 1842, German spies made the first pair of rings. In the early days, there were only some swing movements and simple hanging movements as auxiliary means for gymnastics training. Five rings became an independent mens gymnastics event in the 19th century and was included in the first Olympic Games in 1896.
