The larvae of Lepidoptera insects (butterflies, moths). The body is cylindrical, divided into 13 segments, with 3 pairs of thoracic legs and several pairs of ventral legs. There are 6 eyes on each side of the head, short antennae, and strong palate. Feces are poisonous. Some caterpillars have other common names, such as inchworms, silkworms, and armyworms (the larvae of the one-star armyworm).
