 "Fuwa" are five anthropomorphic dolls. Their prototypes and headdresses contain associations with the ocean, forest, fire, and earth. The connection with the sky applies the expression method of traditional Chinese art, showing the breadth and depth of the splendid Chinese culture. Each doll of the Beijing Olympic Games mascot represents a good wish: Beibei symbolizes prosperity, Jingjing symbolizes joy, Huanhuan symbolizes passion, Yingying symbolizes health, and Nini symbolizes good luck. The dolls bring Beijings hospitality and blessings to all corners of the world, inviting people from all over the world to gather in Beijing to celebrate the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. The five Fuwa dolls are called "Beibei", "Jingjing", "Huanhuan", "Yingying" and "Nini" respectively. One word from each of their names was taken in order to form a homophonic "Beijing welcomes you".

Beibei’s source of inspiration: China New Year pictures - there is more than enough every year, traditional Chinese fish patterns and water wave patterns. The blessing conveyed by Beibei is prosperity. She is a little carp. In traditional Chinese culture and art, the patterns of "fish" and "water" are symbols of prosperity and harvest. People use "carp jumping over the dragon gate" to imply success in career and the realization of dreams, and "fish" means success in career and the realization of dreams. It also has the connotation of having more than auspicious occasions and having more than enough every year. Beibeis head decoration uses fish patterns from the Chinese Neolithic Age. She is gentle and pure, a master of water sports, and complements the blue ring among the five Olympic rings.
