Butterflies are mostly between 5 and 10cm in size. The body is divided into a head, thorax and abdomen; two pairs of wings; and three pairs of legs. There is a pair of hammer-shaped antennae on the head. The ends of the antennae are thickened and the wings are wide. The wings stand upright on the back when resting. The antennae of butterflies are club-shaped, with each section at the end of the antennae thick and club-shaped. The body and wings are covered with flat, scaly hairs.
