European honey bee

European honey bee

I have a bucket of bees at home, which was given to me by my father’s fellow villagers.

I observed it every day and found that the bee had six legs on its abdomen, two eyes on its head, a pair of wings on its back, and a stinger on its tail. If the bee sting is used, the bee will die soon.

After a period of observation and analysis, I found that there are two major categories of bees: one is domestic bees and the other is wild bees. There are many types of bees in these two categories. Black bees, queen bees and worker bees are all domestic bees; wasps and wasps are typical wild bees.

The living habits of domestic bees are that on sunny days, they come out in dense numbers, as dense as drizzle; if it is cloudy or rainy, almost no one comes out. When it collects nectar, its body does not move, but its legs keep moving. After collecting the pollen, it puts it on its two hind legs. And it usually picks yellow pollen, such as tuberose, chrysanthemum, osmanthus and rapeseed. At the same time, I discovered that collecting honey is mainly the work of worker bees, while black bees steal honey and produce the next generation with the queen bee.

If you disturb a bee while observing, the bees will panic and attack you. In addition, I also found that if a bee dances a round dance on the bee bucket, it means that the honey source is less than 100 meters away from it; if it dances a tail dance, the honey source is 100 meters away from home. This is how they convey information.

In short, bees are hard-working and intelligent insects. It usually needs to fly hundreds of thousands of kilometers to brew 500 grams of honey, which is equivalent to circling the earth three or four times. Therefore, we must cherish and respect the fruits of its labor, not waste honey and not harm bees.
