Real amber is too soft to use on keychains, but amber made from polyester resin is very strong and highly scratch-resistant. Share a tutorial on how to make an imitation amber resin keychain. It is simple and beautiful. Come and try it, friends!~
Material Tools:
Resin Mold - Semi-circular 25mm,
Resin,
Alcohol dyes - yellow, orange,
Glitter,
Dried plants, insects, or other natural debris,
Tweezers,
Toothpick,
Wax paper,
Gloves,
Mixing cup,
1 x 25mm bezel or bezel tray, depth should be at least 1mm,
1 x 25mm split ring (key ring),
1 No. 16 jump ring (5mm+),
Glue (e-6000, epoxy resin, etc.),
Jewelry pliers optional.
Pour 1-2T resin into the mixing cup. When working with polyester resin, do not add hardener until you are ready to pour.
Add enough yellow alcohol dye to lighten the lemon yellow. About 3 drops, stir well.
Add orange alcohol dye 1 drop at a time until you have a beautiful amber color.
Add some glitter flakes and mix well.
Take a look at the mixed solution to see if you need more glitter.
You can add dirt, plants, or insects if desired. Stir well and let them "soak" for a few minutes.
Add one or two drops of curing agent and stir evenly. The resin is then poured into the cabochon mold and stirred with a toothpick.
As the resin thickens, you can see if the cabochon contains large inclusions.
Gently stir each mold to keep inclusions evenly distributed.
Once the resin becomes as thick as jelly, you can stop stirring and allow the resin to completely harden. Usually you have to wait until the next day.
When the cabochons are fully cured, use your thumb to press on the back of the mold cavity to pop them out of the mold. If they don't pop out easily, stop and wait longer.
Even if they seem completely dry, try not to handle them or they may leave fingerprints. Leave them outside (if possible) and use them the next day, which will give you a beautiful glass surface.
Take out your backstop tray, if it doesn't fit you may have to cut it down a bit.
Try again in the tray until it fits.
Apply a thick (1-2mm) layer of e-6000 glue and use a toothpick to spread the glue to the edges.
Place the cabochon branches in and let the glue dry overnight.
Add a jump ring to the loop on the baffle and use two pairs of pliers to unscrew and twist the loop closed.
Your keychain is ready! ArtificialThe amber keychain is very strong and durable and can easily withstand many keys~
