Large-scale music events around the world have a common problem that needs to be solved, which is the problem of waste and garbage generated by large crowds. These problems not only cause headaches for event organizations, but also require a lot of effort to clean up the venue after the event. They are also a situation that many teams that value environmental protection have long wanted to solve. KarTent, a design team from the Netherlands, hopes to solve the "tent" problem through design.
Perhaps because the price is low, people don’t care about cleaning, it’s too troublesome to carry and move, etc., a large number of tents are casually discarded at the site after the event. Most tents made of petrochemical raw materials consume considerable resources in production or disposal, and the harm they cause to the earth is self-evident.
So two designers, Wout Kommer and Jan Portheine, designed a solution that is more environmentally friendly and easier to dispose of: the paper tent KarTent. The tent is made of recycled thick cardboard and is 100% recyclable. There is no metal or plastic. The completely simple paper material is enough to cope with the music carnival for three days and two nights.
The stability of cardboard has been proven in many designs. Furniture that needs to be heavy-duty and compression-resistant can be made of cardboard. It only provides shelter from wind and rain in open grasslands and forests. Naturally, it is even more so. no problem. But as mentioned just now, KarTent is made entirely of paper, which is very helpful to improve the recycling process. But will waterproofing be a problem?
The KarTent team stated that the design of the paper tent has been tested for a long time. Even in a continuous rainy state, it can still ensure that the interior of the tent is dry and refreshing, and will not cause any damage to the structure. In relatively harsh weather, the KarTent can still achieve the same effect as an ordinary tent, and it can last for several days without any problem.
As for the structural design, there is no need to use any adhesive or metal props to assist. According to the simple folding and tenon design, you can easily complete a tent, and you no longer have to worry about using a mallet that you are not used to. Finger tapping. General users are also concerned about the space issue. In the teams design, the KarTent can accommodate two people, and there is additional space for luggage. The area inside is about 3.3 square meters. Although it is not luxurious, it is suitable for short-term use. It is enough. By the way! The designer also didn’t forget to design a small window opposite the main entrance. It is also very important to maintain air circulation in the tent.
The design concept of KarTent was proposed two years ago. It has been tested many times and modified into the latest version. In terms of appearance, it is much more comfortable than the old version. Some time ago, KarTent also officially cooperated with the music festival and launched a sales plan. From now on, people attending the event no longer need to bring their own tents, nor do they need to worry about subsequent processing. The paper tents left on site also cooperate with local recycling and cleaning companies and are transported directly to the recycling plant for processing.
KarTent also cooperates with other brands to print brand advertisements on cardboard to create maximum benefits. At the same time, the income will be returned to the sales amount of the tent. The medium tent is currently priced at ?34.95 and the large tent is $49.95. I hope that there will be opportunities to see KarTent at large-scale events in the future, so that more people can contribute a small amount to the earth.
