Similar to the shadow puppets of old theater shows, writer and Emmy Award-winning producer John Marshall creates silhouette art out of cardboard. His Sunset Selfies series features the artist himself interacting with his hand-cut figures and objects. Each DIY scene is shot against the sunset, which brings it to life and fun.
Marshall spent his summer vacation in a cabin on Frye Island, Maine. He loved watching colorful sunsets from his back door, so he decided to start a creative project that incorporated the sky. After making each sunset using only cardboard and some common cutting tools, he decided to shoot it continuously for 30 days.
Since then, Marshall has continued to create everyday Sunset Selfies, and his style has become increasingly detailed. From animals to pop culture figures, each of Marshalls images has its own story to tell, and always features the artist himself.
